Committee Reports: M/S/C for acceptance
Treasurer’s Report: Jim reviewed the P&L reports for June and for FY 2020 and a comparison of the P&Ls from the last 2 fiscal years. He reported on an apparent need for an inventory adjustment. There was discussion of possible locations where additional inventory may be stored. There was discussion of overall declining revenues and whether hiring an events coordinator or executive director would help to return income to prior levels.
Kona Coffee Cultural Festival Cupping Competition: Initiated by Barbara, there was extensive discussion of whether and how KCFA should raise concerns that the heritage Kona Typica flavor profile has been removed as the standard for the judging the “Classic Division” of this annual event. Further consideration was deferred to the August meeting. Sandra suggested that Board members circulate thoughts and suggestions via email on how best to proceed.
Merchandise Management Update: Deferred to August meeting.
Legislative Committee Candidate Questionnaires: All fifteen West Hawaii candidates who were sent questionnaires responded. Emails to members and media were sent with links to the responses. Additional questionnaires may be sent to runoff candidates for County Mayor after the primary election.
Reciprocal KCFA/Holualoa Village Association Memberships: Bruce recommended an approach to HVA suggesting a return to reciprocal memberships of past years. The Board concurred and the suggestion will be made to HVA.
Events and Social Committee Update--EXPO: Chet reported that the use of the HDOA grant funds for the EXPO has been extended through June of 2021 because of coronavirus disruptions. The committee is considering a “virtual” event this fall or an “actual” event next spring (or both).
Green Coffee Program Update: For the $2,000 Covid-19 Emergency Farmer Relief grant from the HDOA, Chet reported that he is continuing to work on developing a plan for using the funds to buy coffee from KCFA members from the new 2020 crop.
