On October 15 the Legislative Committee submitted testimony in support of the HDOA’s request to the Hawaii Board of Agriculture for preliminary approval of a 3-year extension of current green coffee grade standards and for authorization for the HDOA to proceed with the formal process to adopt the extension. The current relaxed grade standards were put in place in 2014 to economically assist farmers while mitigation procedures for the effects of CBB were developed—but the current standards are scheduled to “sunset” on July 1, 2017. On October 18, the Board of Agriculture unanimously approved the proposed amendments and the HDOA is proceeding to formalize the incorporation of an extension through 7/1/2020 into the regulations.
