We are moving along with all the plans. The Chefs are lines up for the Chefs Choice Award. We have over thirty farmers and The Kona Historical Society is having a booth for the first time. there are new food vendors and all the regulars. Today was the first day that the message went out asking farmers if they would like to join and I have two new farms signed up already. I expect there will be more. I have a couple of places I can put some more booths. I am going to send info to Sherry Bracken this week and for “About Town”. I hope to have the map finished by the end of next week and will be emailing all the farmers with Parking instructions and last minute instructions. Karen Zulkowski seems to be handling the KCFA booth. I sent her volunteers that had emailed me.
Aloha to All, Anita

1--The Legislative Committee has submitted testimony to the Board of Agriculture in support of the HDOA's request to amend HAR 4-143 to extend for another 3 years (to July 1, 2020) the the 20% defect rate for the "Prime" grade and the 1/10 of a defect count for pinholes. These temporary changes to the coffee grade standards were put in place for a 3 year period in 2014 to provide economic assistance to farmers as we developed and implemented measures to mitigate the effects of CBB. If the HDOA's proposed 3-year extension is granted, it will provide continued economic benefits to coffee farmers as we continue to address CBB infestation.
2--In response to the Hawaii Coffee Association's call for making "needed changes" to the current green coffee grade standards, the KCFA has submitted a proposal to the HDOA for simplifying the Hawaii standards in ways which will benefit farmers, consumers and processors. The HDOA has indicated an interest--during the requested 3 year extension--in working with coffee organizations to develop broad set of reforms to the current green coffee grade standards.

Had a delightful time looking at their website. Impressive!
They have links to old Star Advisor Articles of coffee competition results and the result write-ups for the farms was so much fun to read!
I’m guess you all on the Board know Una Greenaway…She reported to me that she was original and that she had let her membership lapse.
