Meeting with HDOA’s Scott Enright (10 minutes) – Sandra/Suzanne/Bruce
Sandra had lunch with Scott Enright Had discussion of Kona blends and trademark (held by Dept of Ag). Sandra’s daughter is trade mark attorney and she feels owner needs to work to protect it. His comment was lack of resources. Sandra thought the attorney general’s office should be involved. Hopefully, Scott will think about importance of Kona brand and KCFA’s strong support of it. Armando asked what Sandra’s daughter would recommend. She will look into case law about trademarks. Chris recommends that the KCFA write to the HI Attorney General about the state’s responsibility to protect the Kona coffee trademark. Will discuss again next meeting. Will look for specific targets sued for trademark infringement.
Scott will meet with Bruce and Suzanne about some of our issues in the next month. Enright has said he has the authority to change the blend law. But state law says must be 10% for any Hawaii coffee. Agenda with Enright would like to talk about funding and percentage. If dept of Ag doesn’t have money to protect trademark then KCFA should support effort to secure state funding. Karen recommends we all have local and federal politicians o talk to
Hawaii Origin – (15 minutes) Discussion
Single origin Hawaii (state)should be promoted. Geo identity. Cea would like KCFA to look into local origin. Made in Hawaii law- says any product that is 51% and that is added value can be called made in Hawaii. Bruce says message should be “don’t buy 10% Kona blend”.
Made in Hawaii Show (10 Minutes) – Allan Update by Suzanne show is Aug 16-17 But we won’t know until June 1 if we have a booth. Cea moves and Sandra seconds motion to have farmers go to sell their own brand and KCFA gets a percent.. Chris recommends that farmers pay their own way. Motion passed. Armando and Karen will be on committee. Chris can help with shipping

HDOA PQ quarantine waiver: - (5 min) Suzanne
Bruce and Suzanne talked to Darwin about Kona Hills. Darwin feels KCFA should not involve Starbucks. Bruce feels we should pressure Starbucks in a letter from Suzanne and KCFA.
