Committee Reports
Treasurer’s Report
Two separate financial reports are a part of this report: a balance sheet for our Association as of 12/31/18, and a profit and loss statement for the month of December with a fiscal year-to-date for fiscal 2019.
As a result of the physical inventory of our assets that was taken in December, we have had to recognize an expense of almost $950 for shrinkage of our Grainpro bag inventory. That expense, plus the usual expenses for the month, put the Association into a loss for December of a bit over $1,300. Our fiscal year to date loss is right at $2,400, which is less than half of what our budget anticipated we would have lost by this time in the fiscal year. In that sense, we are doing well.
Our expenses in November were reasonable. The $462 paid for our Directors and Officers Liability insurance, while the $336 amount is for our bookkeeper’s work in keeping our books up to date.
Our balance sheet looks good with sufficient funds available to pay our bills and look to funding future events.
Expo 2019; A celebration of all things Kona Coffee
The expo will be held on March 30. Old A’s is booked but I need Jim to contact Park and Recreation to see about fees. The woman only works part time and is hard to catch.
We were awarded $5000 by the county this year and have already received a pledge form Community Federal for $1000. Aesha Shapiro will again be the event coordinator. Save the date has been sent out and multiple vendors have already indicated they will have a table. We are working on the flyer and getting price quotes from radio stations for advertising.
If you have speaker suggestions, please let me know. We are going to have small breakout sessions, so the talks are more intimidate. Please save the date and let me know if you can help with set up, clean up and the day of the event. I also need several pounds of coffee from each of you. We will sell it under your label, but profits go to KCFA. If your committee wants a table let me know. We would like to have the legislative people for sure. Also we will again do a blind tasting but with Kona vs 10% Kona and Maxwell house. If you have additional suggestions for events please let me know.

Legislative Committee Report for 1/14/19 Meeting:
Representative Richard Creagan (So. Kona/Ka’u) has prepared and will file two coffee labeling bills in the 2019 Legislative Session which opens later this month—(1) a bill requiring 51% minimum Hawaii-grown coffee in Hawaii coffee blends; and (2) a bill requiring Ready-To-Drink (RTD) coffee products to meet the same State label disclosure requirements that apply to roasted and instant coffee. Representative Creagan’s office indicates that newly elected Senator Dru Kanuha (West Hawaii) has agreed to introduce companions for both bills in the Senate.
