Earlier this summer Slow Food USA named “Pure Kona Coffee” to Slow Food’s Ark of Taste. Slow Food USA and KCFA are now working on a partnership/promotional opportunity for KCFA-member coffee farms as part of Slow Food’s annual membership drive. The proposal is for up to 14 Kona farms to provide 8 one-half pound packages of coffee to be offered as incentives during the Slow Food USA membership drive—in exchange for introduction of each farm’s Kona Coffee to high-end appreciators of fine heritage food and beverages; a “Small Business Supporter Membership” in Slow Food USA; and “thank you” recognition on Slow food’s social media. Interested members should review the announcement sent to members on August 12.

The questionnaire asked candidates: (1) whether they support the calls of the Hawaii County Council and the Hawaii Democratic Party for legislation requiring a minimum of 51% genuine content for labeling or advertising blends of Hawaii-Grown coffee and clear identification of the origin of all coffee in those blends; and (2) if yes, what specific action the candidates pledge to take in order to support enactment of this legislation. KSBE (Kamehameha Schools/Bishop Estate) asked for our help in alerting KCFA Members regarding the Crop Insurance Meeting held on August 9. I have sent out numerous emails to Members regarding the KCFA Harvest picnic, as well as posting that info into the KCFA Face Book page and onto the KCFA site. Sent email with the Newsletter to all KCFA Members after publishing "The Independent Voice" for August onto the KCFA site. Working now with our programmer to reactivate the various Grant components so we will be ready to "re-launch" it next week.-aloha Cea
