KCFA BOD Meeting Minutes
May 17, 2011
Call to Order at 4:00 PM
Present: P.Uster, M.daSilva, K.Wood, C. Bondera, ML Moss, J. Stith, B. Corker, C. Wilson, T. Butler and R. Anders
100% Kona Coffee furnished by Princess Radha Farm,(Page). Next month R. Anders.

Review of Minutes for April, 2011. Motion by B. Corker to approve minutes as presented. Motion carried.
Treasurers Report- Treasurer ChristyCarrico announced that there was over $3000 in the KCFA Japanese Tsunami Fund account and the KCFA checking account was positive. Tsunami Fund drive will be discontinued at the end of May and the funds distributed in June.
A Finance Committee was formed consisting of ML Moss, P. Uster, C. Carrico and C. Bondera in order to create a budget for the next fiscal year. They will meet via Skype on June 14.
Education: P. Uster- May’s Coffee Talk was attended by approximately 2 dozen people. Thanks to Bob Smith and Robert Barnes for their presentations. June Coffee Talk will be at Bob Nelson’s on Proper Vertical Selection. The Ed. Committee discussed speakers and topics for next year’s Expo and workshops.
Pest and Disease: B. Smith - CBB Task Force met on April 20. Dan Kuhn will remain as Chair.
Bob discussed the practicality of manufacturing our own fungicide and the possibility of freezing green coffee to kill the CBB. A motion was made by R. Anders that KCFA put aside $1000 in support of the Task Force. The money not to be forwarded without a pre-designated purpose and only with the approval of the KCFA BOD . Motion was seconded by M. daSilva and carried.
Website: Cea Smith- Budget submittal of $1225 - web hosting, $250, site security, $150, Programming, $750. Most common question: Is the web site for a list of farmers. This question is directed to the Buy Direct Page. Statistics for last month for Buy Direct Page was 2380 views, for actual Farms, 827. 208 views for CBB page and 334 for Classified.
Chamber of Commerce:M.daSilva- Chamber ,“After Hours” meeting in Waimea May, 18. Annual Golf Tournament on May 20 and annual election of new officers June 24 at the Four Seasons.
Legislature: B. Corker-
1. Still waiting to hear back from Safeway Stores about HDOA Chair Kokobun’s letter regarding the content of their Kona Blend coffee.
2. HB 1552 became law on May 6 without the Governor’s signature. KCFA requested that he veto the bill.
3. The State Education Committee rejected the governor’s nomination of Sandra Scarr probably because of her position on Kona blends as a former Kona Coffee Council Chair. It appears that the vote was influenced by the Hawaii coffee industry in Oahu. Our regrets and sympathies go out to Sandra.
Public Relations: C. Wilson- Clare is working on the Restaurant Recognition Awards program.
Social : K. Wood- The Chili Cook-Off and BBQ will be held on Monday, May 30 at the Two Step Parking Lot in Honaunau.
Membership: ML Moss- 237 members. Marylou requests that we continue to canvas our neighbors.
Events: KCFA won the Best Decorated Booth award at the annual Kona Brew Club Festival.
ML Moss suggested KCFA will not participate in this year’s CoffeeFest because it bombed the last time around.
P. Trystad presented an application and agenda for this year’s APEC in Oahu. Page, C. Wilson , M. daSilva and ML Moss formed a committee to see if we will participate.
Organizational Logistics Committee: Pres. Bondera would like to form a committee to streamline purchases for budgets.
American Origin Products/International Committee: Pres. Bondera would like to also form a permanent KCFA AOP/International Committee. These will be finalized with Executive Committee approval.
