KCFA participated in the Coffee & Art Stroll in Holualoa on Nov. 8th and in the Ho’olaule’a Event down at Keauhou Shopping area on Nov. 15th. Lots of fun and we sold a fair amount of our logo
merchandise. In fact, we sold out of our KCFA caps! Thanks to all the board members who helped Chris and me with these events.
The next Event for us will be the EXPO on Friday, Jan. 30th. We will be sending out“Save the Date” letters to vendors and seeking more sponsors. We plan to tap into our “Supporting Business
Members” list to see if they are interested in sponsoring us to help off-set the cost of our events, like EXPO & Banquet. Any ideas, let us know.
More map shirts were ordered for the Cultural Festival and EXPO. We will order more caps. We only have 4 more seals rolls available, sothose are on order.
We’ve had lots of orders for burlap bags and GrainPro bags this month. We will be placing an order soon for more GrainPro bags.
Chris will be hosting a“Christmas Social Event on Thursday, Dec. 11th at her home. This is a reminder to our board members to bringa dessert and if you have any fabulous Xmas decorations
that you are willing to share, let Chris know.
Chris is working on a list of restaurants on the island that serve 100% Kona Coffee. If you know of any, let Chris know.
AGM is scheduled for Jan. 11th at Kahalu’u Beach park. Time TBD

Legislative Committee Report—for 11/18/14
1—Brenda Ford’s Resolution: Following up on Anita’s suggestion at last month’s Board meeting for a petition to Hawaii State legislators, Cea has been putting together an online petition. Through the petition KCFA members and supporters will be able to ask legislators to enact the truth-in-coffee-labeling measures unanimously requested by the Hawaii County Council—(1) a
minimum 51% genuine content in any Hawaii-grown coffee blend; and (2) identification on the front label of the origin of non-Hawaii-grown coffee in a blend.
2—Election Results and Developments:
Richard Creagan won re-election as State House Representative from SouthKona and Ka’u. Rep. Creagan gave in-person testimony to the County Council in support of Brenda Ford’s Resolution. His opponent, David Bateman, was the only person to testify in opposition to the Resolution at the County Council meeting on October 15. Rep. Creagan’s campaign made “Coffee Farmers for Creagan” signs that were waved along the highway by farmers prior to the election.
Nicole Lowen also won re-election as State House Representative from North Kona. Rep. Lowen has publicly supported Brenda Ford’s Resolution and truth-in-coffee-labeling legislation.
Russell Ruderman, State Senator from Puna, has been a consistent supporter of the interests of Hawaii County coffee farmers. This past week he was named Chair of the Hawaii State Senate Agriculture Committee–a very favorable development.
