As you are by now hopefully aware, Coffee Leaf Rust (CLR) has been found on Hawaiian Islands. This is probably the worst thing a coffee farmer wants to hear, but if you don’t want to be blindsided by this pest, you will need to be proactive and start planning for it NOW!
The KCFA has taken the stance that coffee farmers on all the islands need to prepare for its spread, and has contacted several people with knowledge of this pest, to spread the word on what to expect and what we can do, both for now and long-term.
The first presentation, from Dr. Kevin Hoffman (HDOA), Suzanne Shriner, and Andrea Kawabata (CTAHR) was last Thursday (Nov. 5). If you missed it, you can watch it on YouTube here:

In the hope that we may mitigate the damage which more than likely will occur from our newest pest (CLR), the KCFA will have another presentation from experts:
• Dr. Lisa Keith, Research Plant Pathologist at the USDA
• Luis Aristizabal, Consultant at SHAC
Dr. Lisa Keith and Luis Aristizabal will offer their perspectives of the CLR topic on Thursday, Nov. 12 at 4:00pm, with Q&A to follow.
The Zoom presentation will be limited to the first 100 attendees. Participant microphones will be muted, so the presenters can talk interruption-free, with questions answered at the end. Plan on approximately one hour of your time.
