Treatment for Scale on Coffee Trees 

I have a farm on Napo`opo`o Road.  We got little rain so coffee trees got infested with ants, was able to get rid of ants. A few weeks later the trees got infested with scale (mold) and the trees became black as result of ant problem. I tried different remedies, what I found to work wonderfully is Trilogy and soap. Trilogy is basically neem oil.  Use 1.5 oz. of Trilogy and 1oz. of dishwashing soap to one gallon of water and spray the scale.

Coffee & Art Stroll November 3rd
The deadline for Kona coffee farmers to register for participation in the Coffee & Art Stroll is October 5^th. For those who have not yet sent in a registration but would like to participate, please let Clare Wilson (clare@huahuafarm.com) know.
Some Kona coffee farmers sent in the Holualoa Village Ohana membership dues but did not send in the booth registration nor the fee for the booth. Both are necessary as HVO puts the program together. Any questions? Send an email to clare@huahuafarm.com.

Recipe: Kona Coffee Truffles

Ingredients:

½ lb. semisweet chocolate chips
½ cup strong brewed Kona coffee
1 Tbsp butter
1 Tbsp liqueur (kahlua, brandy, kirsch, etc.)
½ cup unsweetened cocoa or other coating like chopped nuts

Chop chocolate very fine in a food processor. Heat coffee to close to a boil. With processor running pour in coffee. Add butter and liqueur and process until smooth. Place in refrigerator until mixture is firm enough to be shaped.
Form into small balls. Roll in cocoa or other topping. Store in the refrigerator.
